TWO ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT RESOURCES
It's hard to believe, but NHNE has been online for almost SIX YEARS
now! Our first News Brief was sent out to a handful of folks on American
Online in October of 1994.
Since then, we've covered a lot of ground, and gone through many changes.
And one of the things that I am proudest of is how many great people,
and worthy projects, we have introduced to our readers.
In 1996, for example, we began publishing Wind & Wings, an online
publication that featured several outstanding resource people. Linda
O'Keefe and Lance Botthof, who specialized in relationships, and Dottie
Titus, a Pathwork Helper from SevenOaks, were some of the folks who
shared their wisdom with us.
Today, Linda and Lance own a beautiful healing center in Tucson, Arizona
and offer an innovative course ("Core Creatives") to help
people realize their full potential. And Dottie, who recently moved
to Minnesota, is the facilitator of a thriving, international discussion
list that explores all aspects of the Pathwork.
The Pathwork is based on the Pathwork Guide Lectures of Eva Pierrakos.
In February of 1995 we published a special report on the Pathwork that
outlined its history, its teachings, examined possible errors and inconsistencies,
and provided a list of Pathwork contacts, lectures and resources:
http://www.nhne.com/specialreports/srpathwork.html
More recently, I helped create a website for Melanie Tarkenton, another
Pathwork Helper who is based in Northern California. While primarily
focused on Pathwork activities in the Northern California Bay Area,
Melanie's website also includes links to Pathwork people, websites,
and related resources around the world:
http://www.pathworkinbayarea.com/
I wanted to say a few words about these two resources -- Core Creatives
and The Pathwork -- because they represent some of the best, most solid
personal growth "movements" I am aware of.
Those of you who are regular readers/fans of NHNE, know we monitor
events all over the world. Many of these events are positive and encouraging.
And many aren't. Many, in fact, make you wonder if our race and planet
is going to survive the growing list of potential crisis's.
I, for one, think we will. I believe this because I think humanity's
pension for self-destructive behavior is being increasingly offset by
human beings who are seeking to heal themselves and fulfill the soul
level purposes they were born with, which brings us back to organizations
like Core Creatives and the Pathwork.
In addition to facilitating inner healing and helping people achieve
their full potentials, Core Creatives and the Pathwork also share another
very important quality: they offer the opportunity to form community
with other human beings, around the world, who realize true healing
-- of ourselves and our world -- begins on the inside, working with
others of like mind who share the journey with us.
I look forward to shining the light on other worthy projects in future
updates. Until then, you can find out more about the Pathwork by visiting
the links above, and more about Core Creatives by reading about their
next fifteen-week course (below).
With Love & Best Wishes,
David Sunfellow

CORE CREATIVES
Imagine having a structured individual and group focus on you, your
goals, and the dreams held in the deepest part of who you are. Imagine
gaining clarity, focus, and enthusiasm for consciously co-creating all
aspects of your life.
This is the intention of "Core Creatives", a fifteen-week
"course" that inspires through a series of tele-classes, a
four-day Intensive and individual Coaching sessions. Classes cover a
range of subjects from "Principles of Creation" and "Empowering
Self and Others" through "Entreprenuering", "Attraction"
and "Abundance". There are thirty classes in all, meeting
over the phone. The four-day Intensive, which falls in the middle of
the course, is held in Tucson at the new Healing Center (http://www.corecreatives.com/news.htm)
and gives participants an opportunity to clear out limiting belief systems
and connect with their life purpose. Individual phone meetings with
Facilitator/Coach are twice per month, and give all an opportunity to
address individual concerns and goals.
If, while reading this, a bell goes off, consider the following, written
by CC Facilitator Becky Wilson (becky@corecreatives.com):
"While reading my NHNE email one day last year, the message about
the Core Creatives course popped out at me and much to my surprise the
intuitive voice inside me said 'Oh, that's what you're supposed to do'.
A year later, I'm thankful that I did not judge or squash that little
voice. I became reacquainted with myself through participation in the
Core Creatives course and now I know who I am, and what I am to do.
I have a renewed trust that I am creating my life in line with the wisdom
of the universe and that change will gracefully unfold to the extent
that I relax into that knowing and trust."
If your bells are ringing, a next step might be "An Introductory
'Class' Call" to be held Tuesday, Sept 12th at 6:00 PM Mountain
Standard Time (THAT'S THIS TUESDAY). This call is an opportunity to
get an experiential "taste" of our tele-classes. We use the
bridge line technology, where up to 30 people can connect by dialing
the same number at the agreed upon time. During the call, you will hear
the Co-Founders of Core Creatives, Linda O'Keefe and Lance Botthof,
and current facilitators talking about the origins of CC and their experiences
with it. Then we'll ask for participation from all who've joined in
moving through a couple of the many exercises we use during the course
to help participants gain clarity and insight into their dreams and
what may block their realization.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
SWEARING
"I rarely swear. It usually doesn't bother me if other people
do but my avoidance of swearing originates in a specific moment on a
cross-country hike on the flanks of Mt. Lassen about ten years ago.
It is a challenge to keep one's consciousness elevated during a hard,
sweaty, uphill stretch. The mind can wander and mutter to itself. My
mind was doing that and I gradually became aware that swear words were
coming into consciousness quite often. All of a sudden, I perceived
a direct correlation between my tendency to swear and the current direction
of my mind/spirit. I suddenly realized that the rising of swear words
within me was feedback that my mind was moving in a direction I did
not wish to go, a direction of less awareness and more "at the
mercy of things", with more of a negative attitude toward my experiences,
and with a sloppy slurring of speech into generic packaged expressions.
This was an important distinction: the swear words are not bad. But
the arising of them in my consciousness is feedback that I'm straying
off course. I suddenly saw that awareness of swearing could form a guardrail.
This realization was so direct and strong that I stopped climbing and
took a vow on the spot. What made the vow unusual was that it wasn't
a vow to not swear. Swearing can come into speech so quickly (especially
if I hit my thumb with a hammer) that I didn't believe I could keep
that vow and what makes a vow a vow is that it is kept forever. Besides,
my realization made me aware that it wasn't avoidance of swear words
that was the point. Instead, the vow was to be aware of swearing rising
into my consciousness or speech and to respond to that rising with a
heightened attention to direction manifesting in part as a heightened
precision in speech (which includes a default setting of not using swear
words but with other settings possible based on conscious, upward-directed
thought)."

THE LIGHTER SIDE:
BANKING AIKIDO
The following letter is posted in many different locations on the Net.
It is usually reported to be "an actual letter sent to a bank in
the United States" that was published by the New York Times. Whatever
its true history, and whomever its true author, I think you'll agree
that this is a letter every bank in the world should see...
Thanks to Jorun Jaeger and Wesley Ray Wyatt.
------------
Dear Sir:
I am writing to thank you for bouncing the check with which I endeavored
to pay my plumber last month. By my calculations some three nanoseconds
must have elapsed between his presenting the check, and the arrival
in my account of the funds needed to honor it. I refer, of course, to
the automatic monthly deposit of my entire salary, an arrangement which,
I admit, has only been in place for eight years.
You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity
and also for debiting my account with $50 by way of penalty for the
inconvenience I caused to your bank.
My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has
caused me to rethink my errant financial ways.
You have set me on the path of fiscal righteousness. No more will our
relationship be blighted by these unpleasant incidents, for I am restructuring
my affairs in the new year, taking as my model the procedures, attitudes
and conduct of your very bank. I can think of no greater compliment
and I know you will be excited and proud to hear it.
To this end, please be advised about the following changes. I have
noticed that whereas I personally attend to your telephone calls and
letters, when I try to contact you I am confronted by the impersonal,
ever-changing, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become.
From now on I, like you, choose only to deal with a flesh and blood
person. My mortgage and loan repayments will, therefore and hereafter,
no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your bank, by check, addressed
personally and confidentially to an employee of your branch, whom you
must nominate. You will be aware that it is an offense under the Postal
Act for any other person to open such an envelope.
Please find attached an Application Contact Status which I require
your chosen employee to complete.I am sorry it runs to eight pages,
but in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows
about me, there is no alternative.
Please note that all copies of his or her medical history must be countersigned
by a Justice of the Peace, and that the mandatory details of his/her
financial situation (income, debts, assets and liabilities) must be
accompanied by documented proof. In due course I will issue your employee
with a PIN number which he/she must quote in all dealings with me.I
regret that it cannot be shorter than 28 digits but, again, I have modeled
it on the number of button presses required to access my account balance
on your phone bank service.
As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Let me level
the playing field even further by introducing you to my new telephone
system, which you will notice, is very much like yours. My Authorized
Contact at your bank, the only person with whom I will have any dealings,
may call me at any time and will be answered by an automated voice.
Press buttons as follows:
1. To make an appointment to see me
2. To query a missing repayment
3. To transfer the call to my living room in case I am there; (Extension
of living room to be communicated at the time the call is received).
4. To transfer the call to my bedroom in case I am sleeping. (Extension
of bedroom to be communicated at the time the call is received.)
5. To transfer the call to my toilet in case I am attending to nature.
(Extension of toilet to be communicated at the time the call is received.)
6. To transfer the call to my mobile phone in case I am not at home.
7. To leave a message on my computer. To leave a message a password
to access my computer is required. Password will be communicated at
a later date to the contact.
8. To return to the main menu and listen carefully to options 1 through
9.
9. To make a general complaint or inquiry. The contact will then be
put on hold, pending the attention of my automated answering service.
While this may on occasion involve a lengthy wait, uplifting music will
play for the duration. This month I've chosen a refrain from "The
Best of Woody Guthrie:" "Oh, the banks are made of marble,
with a guard at every door, and the vaults are filled with silver, that
the miners sweated for." After twenty minutes of that, our mutual
contact will probably know it by heart.
On a more serious note, we come to the matter of cost. As your bank
has often pointed out, the on going drive for greater efficiency comes
at a cost - a cost which you have always been quick to pass on to me.
Let me repay your kindness by passing some costs back. First, there
is the matter of advertising material you send me. This I will read
for a fee of $20 per page. Inquiries from your nominated contact will
be billed at $5 per minute of my time spent in response. Any debits
to my account, as, for example, in the matter of the penalty for the
dishonored check, will be passed back to you. My new phone service runs
at 75 cents a minute (even Woody Guthrie doesn't come for free), so
you would be well advised to keep your inquiries brief and to the point.
Regrettably, but again following your example, I must also levy an establishment
fee to cover the setting up of this new arrangement.
May I wish you a happy, if ever-so-slightly less prosperous, New Year.
Your humble client...

ADMISSION TO HEAVEN
Thanks to Andre' Gendron.
After a long illness, a woman died and arrived at the Gates of Heaven.
While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through
the Gates. She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were
her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died
before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her.
"Hello! How are you! We've been waiting for you! Good to see you."
When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is such
a wonderful place! How do I get in?"
"You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.
"Which word?", the woman asked.
"Love."
The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed
her into Heaven. About six months later, Saint Peter came to the woman
and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day. While the
woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived.
"I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have
you been?"
"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband
told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of
you while you were ill. And then I won the lottery. I sold the little
house you and I lived in and bought a big mansion. And my wife and I
traveled all around the world. We were on vacation and I went water
skiing today. I fell, the ski hit my head, and here I am. How do I get
in?"
"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.
"Which word?", her husband asked.
"Czechoslovakia."
