EDITOR'S COMMENT:
The NHNE News List first appeared online in November of 1999. Since
then, 1803 messages have been sent out and the list has grown from a
handful of NHNE fans to over 500 people -- a small list by Internet
standards, but one that is particularly well informed -- and a gluten
for email punishment.
On average, the news list receives five to six messages a day on a
wide range of fascinating topics. We gather news from many different
sources -- including, of course, our readers (see the bottom of this
post for a list of our favorite news sources) -- and we do our best
to send out news, especially important news, as soon as it appears.
How can you join the fun?
For those of you who just can't get enough email (or who are buried,
like I am, in tons of email, but still want to be as well informed as
possible), you can subscribe by sending a blank email message to <nhnenews-subscribe@yahoogroups.com>.
The rest of you can bookmark and visit our bulging archive, at your
leisure, at this address:

SCHWARTZREPORT
Published by Stephan A. Schwartz
Daily
Stephan's "new and improved" report consists of a brief summary
of the day's most important news stories. Like us, he tracks a wide
variety of thought-provoking topics that are often ignored by the mainstream
press. Last count, Stephan has over 4500 people on his list and many
of these folks are authorities in their respective fields. Along with
occasionally including his reader's comments about specific stories,
Stephen regularly shares his own insightful, well-informed thoughts.

FUTUREDITION
Published by The Arlington Institute
Weekly
The Arlington Institute believes that "to understand the future,
you need to
have an open mind and cast a very wide net." To that end, their
newsletter,
which is published every week, explores "a cross-disciplinary palette
of
issues, from the frontiers of science and technology to major developments
in mass media, geopolitics, the environment, and social perspectives."
This
is one of the most interesting organizations around. They're well
connected, consistently zero in on cutting edge issues, and draw upon
a
stellar network of experts to examine some the most compelling issues
of our
day.

ANANOVA NEWS ALERTS:
Daily
Now here's a great news service. Along with tracking virtually every
news story under the sun, you can configure Ananova to send you, via
email, just the stories that are of interest to you. Unlike other news
sources which provide more in depth articles, Ananova's stories are
bite-size, making them fast to download and easy to read.

DAILY GRIST
Environmental news from Grist Magazine
Daily
There are several environmentally-oriented daily news services on the
Net. The Daily Grist is my favorite. Every day, The Grist includes a
paragraph describing the six biggest environmental stories of the day.
Sometimes the stories The Grist covers only appear in once news source.
More often, they appear in several news stories, and when they do, The
Grist reports the key points from each story and then provides links
to the original source articles. The Grist also has a wonderful (and
much needed) sense of humor that shines through in their clever headlines
and light-hearted paragraphs.

stories and light hearted, bite-size summaries, then here's where you
can find a no-frills list of the day's most important environmental
stories. Published by Planet Ark, World Environment News tracks environmentally-oriented
news from Reuters.

THE COMMITTEE FOR THE SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION OF THE PARANORMAL (CSICOP)
Sporadic
This organization claims to be seriously investigating the paranormal,
but,
instead, are actually humanists on a mission to discredit anything that
even
remotely smacks of God and spiritual/supernatural forces. In the pursuit
of
debunking all things miraculous they, do, however, send out some great
material to their mailing list, including "the Skeptical Inquirer
Electronic
Digest" and links to important articles that discuss various paranormal
topics. The volume is very low (typically only a few messages per month).

FAIRNESS & ACCURACY IN REPORTING (FAIR-L)
Sporadic
Their name says it all: "Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting"
challenges stories, writers, producers, newspapers, television shows,
you name it, who they believe are guilty of misrepresenting the truth.
While carefully detailing facts that were left out of original reports,
and directing readers to alternative sources of information, FAIR-L
goes one step further by regularly calling for direct action, including
phone calls and letter writing campaigns to encourage the offending
source to paint a more accurate portrait of the issue in question.

influence of corporations.

NHNE MISSION STATEMENT, CREDITS & CONTACT INFORMATION
The mission of NewHeavenNewEarth (NHNE) is to answer humankind's oldest,
most perplexing questions: Who are we? Where are we from? What is the
origin and purpose of life? Instead of relying on ancient or contemporary
wisdom, or the knowledge of isolated experts, we are building a global
network of seekers from all walks of life, from all parts of the world,
lay people and professionals alike, that can pool talents, experience,
and resources to unravel life's great mysteries.
We also believe that our planet is passing through a time of profound
change and are seeking to create a global community of like-minded people
that can safely pass through whatever changes may come our way and help
give birth to a new way of life on our planet.
