NHNE CROP CIRCLE UPDATE 8: PART 1
Tuesday, October 20, 1998
By NHNE SwiftWing Reporter Sherry Stultz
A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from one of the individuals I interviewed this summer. According to the call, Matthew Williams and Paul Damon of THE TRUTHSEEKERS REVIEW MAGAZINE had created crop circles all summer.
Since Matt had told me in an earlier interview (NHNE Crop Circle Update 7, 8/12/98) that he had created a few circles in the past as an experiment to test the researchers, I was not shocked by these allegations. What surprised me was that Matt had said that they were no longer conducting this so-called research.
Early on, Matt and Paul both stressed to me that they were investigative journalists, researching the crop circle phenomenon. According to them, their main intent was to catch the hoaxers. The hoaxers included the Circlemakers, John Lundberg, Rod Dickinson, and Will Russell as well as other groups.
I decided to phone Matt myself and find out if these allegations were true. When I spoke with Matt on the phone he was very upfront about making circles this summer, but suggested it was not newsworthy, and that I should just keep the information to myself. I disagreed. Matt and Paul spent their time in Wiltshire under the guise of trying to catch the hoaxers, when in fact, they were hoaxing themselves, though they prefer the term "circlemaking."
I urged Matthew to write a statement regarding the activities of THE TRUTHSEEKERS this summer, because in my opinion, it's best to not have other people interpret your motives and experiences.
Many people who trusted Matthew and Paul were very hurt and disappointed by their actions this summer, and it was that contingent of the crop circle group that phoned me and asked to me investigate this further and make the information available to the general public. I appreciate that Matthew and Paul have come forward to explain their actions, which continue to point me in the direction of social phenomena. When my crop circle investigation began, I tended to believe that crop circles were made by an external energy source, but in lieu of NHNE's upcoming special report, I must state that I have very little faith in any of my previous ideas.
The saddest part of this story involves relationships and trust. Many people who believed that Matthew and Paul were attempting to help them make sense of this mystery were devastated to learn about their circlemaking. Many friendships and ideas were destroyed. I think refreshing insights will be the product of this latest news and these will be addressed in Part 2 of this Update (due out tomorrow).
What follows is the statement from THE TRUTHSEEKERS, Matthew Williams and Paul Damon.
TO THOSE CONCERNED
To those concerned: here is my statement on our activities. I hope people see the positive side to all of this because there really is one.
Matthew & Paul
I Matthew Williams admit that during the summer of 1998 I made crop circles in the United Kingdom.
This effort was undertaken in order to continue research into the circles phenomena and follows on from limited circlemaking which took place in 96 and 97.
The *initial* reasons for undertaking this research are as follows:
1. To determine how easy or hard it is to make complex formations.
2. To observe the reactions of researchers in the crop circle fraternity and to see how good their senses are for the recognition of manmade circles.
3. To ascertain if there is a form of communication observable between circlemakers via pattern progression. This includes human and "alien" or "spirit" intelligences.
4. To observe if there were any unusual effects observable of an anomalous nature whilst making a circle -- as has been stated on many occasions by other human circlemakers.
5. To understand the phenomena of circlemaking and its effects from a different perspective -- that of a circlermaker as opposed to researcher.
6. To ascertain if various other claims of previous human circlemakers were true.
The need for secrecy in our work was paramount so as not to change our results or effect the reactions of public or circles researchers. This was not an attempt to "HOAX" people; merely a need to maintain the status quo, so as to establish a control sample from which we could gauge reactions.
We did inform some researchers of what we were doing and even some close friends. We obviously did not refer to these people in our observations as they were no longer part of the control.
Some people are offended because "they were not told." Well this is a fact they will have to deal with. As far as we are concerned we told only those that we considered important enough. Now that the "secret" is out, we are happy to talk more openly about our results. Hopefully, this will satisfy the questions of those who were not given privy to inside knowledge.
It was clear that a few months into the circlemaking season that as we progressed in our endeavors that our group of circlemakers was changing its opinions and motivations as to circlemaking. This also progressively effected a change in the initial questions that were being asked by us.
We observed many unusual phenomena in and around the fields whilst making circles. We noticed changes in our outlook on life whilst making the circles and got a sense that we were in communication with a much higher intelligence regarding the responses to our circle designs -- ie: other circles which appeared as an apparent repose to circles which we created.
I will not go into to greater detail about what exactly these life altering changes were as some of this is still sinking in for me, the realizations still far too fantastic for me to feel comfortable writing about.
However, I can say that due to special coincidences which took place -- which included the creation of almost exactly the same types of designs appearing in different parts of the country on the same nights as we were working -- we had to conclude that human circlemakers (ourselves included) were being given inspiration from a higher source for their designs.
Due to this change in attitude, we them started to see circlemaking as a form of sacred art which has a higher purpose. This is how I still currently regard the subject.
Our circles were regarded by the circle research community as genuine.
We witnessed many measurable effects such as dowsability of the crop circle after creation. These tests were undertaken by both ourselves and independent researchers -- albeit not to a scientific standard, but to a near enough level for our benefit.
UFOs and other paranormal events were perceived in and around the areas where we were making circles whilst we undertook their construction.
Whilst making circles we became aware that we were being protected by some unseen force or intelligence whilst we worked. This was evidenced many times to us and even took on the form of making us invisible and inaudible to people standing on the edge of the field we were working in. We at first found this very very disconcerting having thought that we had been caught out by either members of the public or circles researchers, only to find out that we could not be seen or heard! Maybe this is why no human circlemakers have ever been caught.
People also experienced various equipment failures in our circles and strange video and photographic evidence has been collected by circles researchers and public.
We believe crop circles to be a sacred form of art whose purpose is to mystify people and cause them to ask questions of themselves about their spirituality and the nature of the universe. Without the circles, whoever the creators are, such questions would not be asked.
Crop circles do represent a tangible paranormal attractor and emitter.
We think that the message of the higher intelligence behind inspiration for crop circles and subsequent paranormal activity contained there within is entirely benign and friendly in nature.
The circles we made and considered by us to be genuine in both their undamaged nature -- how we were able to achieve non damage to plants with use of our "stomper" boards (in the case of some, but not all, circles) -- is a magical effect.
The subject grows in dynamism and interest due to human involvement -- as human involvement is a heavy part of the circle phenomena.
There is probably a non human intelligence working alongside human circlemakers to create some circles outright. IE, the original phenomena still remains creating circles -- a fact to which ALL human circlemakers agree. This is a very worthy point to note! Evidence of this comes in the form of additions to circles which appear in the morning.
There are further conclusions that will be revealed as we compile our results.
Anyone wishing to take part in creating circles must do so with reverence and attempt to maintain a very high standard of work. They should not discuss the details of their work with anyone outside their team so as not to lose the magical effect for public observers. It is an old adage that authorship causes circles to lose they mystique. Mystique can be a shamanistic way to draw people towards a greater realization through an occult act (in some cases). *please take the word occult in its literal sense, not a sinister sense.*
I am sure that those who do ask for guidance get it. Ask with humility and you may be surprised to see your circlemaking ability improve radically.
When circles are made with the wrong intent they look bad and do not have paranormal effects attached to them (sometimes they do, but in a lessened quantity, or warped/strange effects are observed).
Good luck everybody.
I think this information only goes to make the circle phenomena bigger than it ever was before. Circle researchers should at last now embrace these facts and get on board -- see the bigger picture and we should all be thankful that circles have for those who are prepared to take seriously what they read here.
Love and enlightenment,
Matthew Williams & Paul Damon

NHNE Crop Circle Update 8: Part 2
Wednesday, October 28, 1998
By NHNE SwiftWing Reporter Sherry Stultz
As I stated in Part 1 of this two-part Update, many people were hurt and disappointed to discover that Matthew Williams and Paul Damon had been creating crop formations this summer. However, for me, this knowledge only serves to reinforce the idea that we are watching a very curious social phenomenon.
So many people attach spiritual significance to crop formations; perhaps this is because they have an emotional need in their lives that is not fulfilled by mainstream religion. Whatever the reason, relying on crop circles to fill such a void can make an individual quite vulnerable when the phenomena begins to unravel.
This what happened to Kerry Blower and her husband Tom, two lovely people I met this summer in Wiltshire, and rather ardent believers in the crop circle phenomena. I know that many others were emotionally impacted by the discovery that Matthew and Paul were making circles, but I am highlighting Kerry's interviews because I was fortunate enough to have "before" and "after" discussions with Kerry regarding her belief, or lack their of, in a genuine phenomenon.
The "after" interview is from an October 4th phone conversation I had with Kerry. The "before" interview is from our very first meeting in Wiltshire on June 12, 1998 at THE RED LION INN where Kerry describes how she became interested in crop circles and UFO's and why she and her family moved to the village of East Kennett.
MOST RECENT INTERVIEW WITH KERRY BLOWER
Sunday, October 4th, 1998
"We've (Kerry and Tom) felt for 8 years we've been part of a cult. I didn't realize it, but I put all my feelings and wants and desires into crop circles.
"For example, every time the winter came I would be devastated inside because there were no crop circles, and I would be hanging around waiting for the bloody summer.
"The BBC formation killed crop circles for me, but Paul (Damon) and Matt (Williams) put the final nail in the coffin because I trusted them totally. It was a very incredibly sad time in my life. I wanted to commit suicide.
"I was gonna kill myself with the tablets that Paul left here and I cried for three days and the only thing that kept me from doing it was seeing my daughter's face. Then I went around the house and anything to do with crop circles, I threw in the bin. And then I thought of all the things that people have written and channeled and I thought it was all a bunch of shit and there is mass illusion in the world. But no matter how painful it is, people have to accept the truth.
"Crop circles were my Jesus Christ and somebody came along and said, 'he's a fake.' I don't believe in a genuine phenomena and that's saying it without any pain or anger. I am moving on."
KERRY'S FIRST INTERVIEW
Friday, June 12, 1998
THE RED LION INN, Avebury, Wiltshire
Kerry Blower was born in Wales on February 12th, the same birthday as me and Abraham Lincoln, and she was blessed with a soulful voice. At the age of 16, Kerry left school to sing in a band and married her husband Tom Blower. To Kerry and Tom's delight, their only child, a daughter, Shelly was born when Kerry was 23.
Kerry says for years she smoked 40 cigarettes a day, drank every night, and didn't believe in "bugger all." She had no interest in nature or mysticism, and she describes herself as brain-dead.
In 1990, a crucial year for so many folks involved in the crop circle population, Kerry says she felt a hole in her guts, a pervasive emptiness that wouldn't go away. She slowly began to withdraw from her old life and her old vices, and falling out with her old crowd of friends. Even though she had no reason to be unhappy, Kerry felt herself closing down.
And then it happened, the pivotal moment that changed her life forever. Kerry, Tom, and little Shelly were traveling by car in Abergavenny, Wales, and Kerry fell asleep in the back seat. A voice woke her up that seemed to travel from back to front of the car. She sat up and reached for the two front seats, her whole body shaking and the voice said, "We are ready to show ourselves; you are ready to go on your mission."
She looked out the car window and saw a shining silver ball, at which point Kerry thought they had all been in a car accident and that she was dead. Once she realized she was awake and not dead, Kerry says she was covered in goose flesh. Tom was driving the car and he did not see the UFO. Later, she found out the other members of her family who were traveling with them in a separate car had seen the shining silver ball as well.
After this incident Kerry became obsessed with UFO's. For the next six months, she was constantly crying, but she could not tell anyone about the voice she heard for a very long time.
In the following months, Kerry began researching UFOs and was amazed to have her sighting confirmed by a UFO investigator from Germany who told her of two other people who had described seeing the shining silver ball on the same night as she did. Confirmation from another source was a great relief for her.
She began organizing the Supernormal Research Conference of the Century in Wales which received national media coverage, since it was the first ever of its kind to be held in Wales. Since then Kerry and Tom have put on many conferences, like the one in held this year in Cardiff called, "It's Strange, But True?", which occurred on August 1st and 2nd. One evening Kerry saw a crop circle on the news in Wales, and she and Tom were so struck by this formation that they left for Alton Barnes that night. They found the crop circle and within it were people from all over talking to each other. They stayed for two days, as Kerry was completely mesmerized by the beauty and magic of Wiltshire, and the Avebury Stone Circles. Eventually they moved to the region and now live in a little village called East Kennett.
Kerrys' life is still more intriguing since, by all rights she and her mother should not even be alive. In 1995, Kerry was having difficulty with her eyes, and she went to see an optometrist, who then referred her to a genetic specialist because the lenses of her eyes were falling off. Kerry was informed that she had a life-threatening disease known as Marfan's Syndrome.
Marfan's Syndrome also known as arachodactyly is a rare genetic disorder of the connective tissue that affects certain body systems, such as the skeleton, heart and eyes. The lens of the eyes is often dislocated and the heart has an abnormal composition. The fingers and limbs can be long and thin, almost spidery in appearance, hence the "archano" prefix in arachnodactyly. However, depending on the degree of expression, some individuals may live a relatively normal life, while others die at an early age.
Kerry's mother carries the gene as did her grandfather. Kerry's daughter does not, and Kerry was overjoyed when Shelly's DNA test was negative for this genetic disorder. An odd twist to this story is that Kerry shares a birthday with Abraham Lincoln, who also reportedly suffered from Marfan's Syndrome.
Kerry says that the UFO sightings gave her the courage to accept the disease, and live her life one day at a time. She used to want everybody to like her, but these days Kerry says she's getting over that.
Kerry does not go on the road and sing gigs anymore with the band, but she still writes and records songs at home. And if you're lucky enough to be around Alton Barnes in the summer time and you see a woman with long blonde hair playing a drum and singing her heart out around a fire, you will have found Kerry Blower.
Kerry's life and her recent musical recording have been influenced by her experiences with UFO's and crop circles. She and her family came to Wiltshire because of crop circles and her friends, her life, everything in her present came about because of a fascination with the crop circle phenomena and the paranormal.
Kerry went into this summer's east field formation in Alton Priors when it was still fresh. She says that there was no milky residue on the crop and not one bit of wheat was out of place. She believes this to be one of the few genuine formations of the summer, and she was enchanted by it. Of the hoaxers, Kerry says, "I detest them with a passion because they do it with deceit in mind."
Kerry went to see a movie this summer, the same one I saw when I was in England called "Sliding Doors", which starred Gwenyth Paltrow and John Hannah. The film shows you two scenarios of a woman's life, determined by whether or not she catches the tube (subway) one afternoon in London. Kerry and I were discussing the film at THE BARGE one evening and we both really liked it because it reveals the cosmic importance of seemingly mundane events. I wondered what Kerry's life would have been like if she had not been driving down that road in Abergavenny the night the UFO was sighted. And then I wondered what my life would have been like if I had never decided to email a guy named James Gregory to get some more information about the so-called planetary shift...
If you are interested in Kerry's spiritual music, you can contact her home in East Kennett. Kerry and Tom Blower also host an annual UFO conference, as well, if anyone would like to contact her about next year's conference in Wales.
